The Insult (Dir. (France-Lebanon, 2017, 113m)

In Beirut, a Christian car mechanic and a Palestinian Muslim construction foreman get into a trivial argument about fixing a drain pipe. Step by step it escalates, soon becoming a ferocious legal battle. Director Ziad Doueiri (THE ATTACK) and frequent collaborator and co-writer Joëlle Touma demonstrate an uncanny ability to dramatize the intractable legacy of traumatic injustices,  invariably reviving memories of the suffering endured by all sides during Lebanon’s bloody 1970s civil war, in a thrilling, emotionally charged portrait of the unresolved arguments that dominate contemporary Arab culture.  Oscar Nomination for Foreign Language Oscar / Winner, AFI Fest and Venice Film Fest
