Shot locally in Albuquerque, this homegrown Ally McBeal<\/em>\u00a0is about a woman who has grown up on music and film. Now 30, single and not loving it, Lea decides to cut pop culture out of her life\u00a0to see if she can find true love.\u00a0Feeling discouraged and not knowing what she has done wrong. Lea’s life quickly spins out of control.<\/p>\n

Riding A Local High With LOW\/FI<\/p>\n

LOW\/FI, the clever and cute short film by triple threat (writer-director-\u00a0producer) Alejandro Montoya Marin, enters SFFF via the festival gauntlet where it\u00a0already won Best Comedy\/Dramedy and Best Editing, with Kristen Rakes\u00a0nominated as Best Actress at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival this year.\u00a0Shot locally in Albuquerque, this homegrown \u201cAlly McBeal\u201d demonstrates\u00a0that Lea\u2019s [Kristen Rakes] active imagination and attachment to pop culture may not\u00a0be the answer to finding love.<\/p>\n

LOW\/FI is about \u201ca woman who has always been influenced by pop culture,\u201d\u00a0says Montoya, \u201cbut now that she is 30 and seeing how her life has turned out, she\u00a0cuts music and film out to see if she can find true love.\u201d\u00a0The cleverness is not in the girl-wants-to-find-love-but\u2013is\u2013stuck-in-her-own-BS motif, but in the interplay between films and music that dictate the internal\u00a0landscape of the main character. Who hasn\u2019t been trapped by the quotes from things\u00a0we see in films or music we hear in pop culture? Right, we all have, and so Lea\u2019s\u00a0mental noise is totally relatable.<\/p>\n

The b\/w \u201cvintage\u201d footage throughout feels authentic until we watch the\u00a0credits roll and we see that was made special for the film. It really makes this story\u00a0so super fun to watch.\u00a0I typically don\u2019t resonate with Rom-Com type shows of any length. But\u00a0LOW\/FI is crafted with such a bright look at the same old finding love angle, that it\u00a0should be on everyone shorts list.<\/p>\n
