<\/h4>\n<\/h4>\nWith an Academy Award-winning film, numerous platinum and gold albums, novels and screenplays to his credit, Christopher \u2018Chris\u2019 McCarty can claim a rare measure of across-the-board success. An actor of great range and sensitivity, he has credits that range from stage work at Washington\u2019s Kennedy Center to films like Sylvester Stallone\u2019s \u201cOver The Top\u201d and TV shows like \u201cO\u2019Hara\u201d \u201cSt. Elsewhere\u201d and \u201cThe Dottie West Story.\u201d A versatile songwriter, he is equally at home writing for rock legend Steve Miller (\u201cSwingtown\u201d) and for country stars like Martina McBride and Highway 101.<\/p>\n
McCarty had a co-starring role in \u201cSession Man\u201d which won the 1992 Oscar as Best Live Action Short Film. He co-starred in the films \u201cOver The Top\u201d and \u201cThe Shadow Men\u201d and \u00a0\u201cSplit Image\u201d and appeared most recently in the critically acclaimed Lionsgate mini-series \u201cThe Lost Room\u201d with Julianna Margulies and Peter Krause.<\/p>\n
He has amassed an enviable television track record, as well. He was a guest star on the highly successful NBC Movie of the Week \u201cDesperado\u201d and on the one-hour season and show finale of \u201cIn The Heat Of The Night.\u201d He has had many other key roles in series like \u201cSidekicks,\u201d \u201cAfterMash,\u201d and \u201cThe New Twilight Zone.\u201d<\/p>\n
His stage work has been highlighted by his performance in the original production of \u201cLady Bug, Lady Bug, Fly Away Home\u201d at the Kennedy Center. Of equal importance was his portrayal of \u201cMilo Crawford\u201d in the original production of Preston Jones\u2019 \u201cThe Last Meeting Of The Knights Of The White Magnolia\u201d at the Dallas Theater Center. He has performed in the original production of Mark Medoff\u2019s \u201cFirekeeper\u201d and the 20th Anniversary production of Jerome Lawrence\u2019s \u201cInherit The Wind\u201d directed by the author Jerome Lawrence. He performed with the San Francisco Theater Group and The Cast Theater in Los Angeles as well.<\/p>\n
As a songwriter, McCarty has joined the elite ranks of those who have composed rock classics. His \u201cSwingtown\u201d recorded by the Steve Miller Band, was part of the multi-platinum albums \u201cBook Of Dreams,\u201d Steve Miller Band Greatest Hits,\u201d (one of the top 25 best selling albums of all time) \u201cSteve Miller Band Box Set\u201d, \u201cSteve Miller Band Complete Greatest Hits\u201d and remains in heavy rotation on classic rock radio stations today. McCarty also wrote for Miller\u2019s \u201cFly Like An Eagle\u201d (Rolling Stone \u2018Album of the Year\u2019) and \u201cItalian X-Rays\u201d LP\u2019s, and he wrote three cuts for Steve Miller\u2019s most recent original album \u201cWide River.\u201d His title track \u201cWide River\u201d was named Rock Song of the Year at the 27th NSAI awards.<\/p>\n
McCarty has mixed songwriting with TV\/film production in a number of ways. His \u201cYou Baby You\u201d was featured in the 20th Century Fox film \u201cProject X\u201d and \u201cA Woman Knows\u201d in the CBS Movie Of The Week \u201cTaking Back My Life,\u201d and his songs have been used in numerous TV series such as HBO\u2019s \u201cThe Sopranos\u201d and specials, late night shows with Letterman, Leno, Kimmel and on ABC\u2019s\u00a0Monday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0Night Football. McCarty has also written the theme song for a national TV commercial for Ford Mustang. His radio credits include stints as a DJ on radio stations KNIX, KTBB, WLAC and a performer on National Public Radio\u2019s \u201cEarplay.\u201d He has written the screenplays, \u201cFlamenco Dancers\u201d \u201cThe Sky Marshals\u201d \u201cKing\u2019s House\u201d \u201cThe Baby Farm\u201d and novels \u201cI Saw The Light\u201d \u201cTales From A Tourist Town\u201d \u201cThe Classic Rock Club\u201d as well as directed and produced two music related TV pilots.<\/p>\n McCarty has also returned to performing his songs in venues from Los Angeles to Austin and back up to his home in Santa Fe where he gave a highlight performance for Local 480 IATSE film union\u2019s charity event \u201cGive Back\u201d featuring Jeff Bridges and the reunion of the \u201cCrazy Heart\u201d band.
