McKenna is an award winning screenwriter and producer. He wrote on\u00a0four of the ten episodes of HBO\u2019s Emmy Award-winning mini-series Band of\u00a0Brothers, for which he garnered a WGA Award, a Christopher Award and was a\u00a0finalist for the Humanitas Prize for his episode, Bastogne. He created, co-wrote and\u00a0co-executive produced The Pacific, the Emmy Award-winning Miniseries for\u00a0HBO, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks on the Pacific Theater of the Second\u00a0World War. In addition to winning a producing Emmy, McKenna was\u00a0nominated for his second writing Emmy, was again a finalist for the Humanitas\u00a0Prize, and garnered a Producer\u2019s Guild Award, a Critic\u2019s Choice Award, as well\u00a0as the Marine Corp Heritage Foundation Bill Broyles Image Award.<\/p>\n<p>A Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Wesleyan University, McKenna majored in\u00a0European History, shared the Dutcher History Prize, and was nominated for\u00a0University Honors, Wesleyan\u2019s highest academic award. He lettered seven times\u00a0in Soccer and Lacrosse. After Wesleyan, McKenna attended Stanford\u00a0University\u2019s PhD program in Russian and Soviet history (focusing on early\u00a0Twentieth Century Russian Fascism). He left Stanford, however, to become a\u00a0freelance writer focusing on politics and foreign affairs.<\/p>\n<p>McKenna was among the first Western journalists to write about the nascent\u00a0post-Soviet, anti-Semitic movement Pamyat, for Arete Magazine. He penned\u00a0additional articles on Eastern Europe and Pakistan for Arete Magazine as well as\u00a0The National Review (for which he interviewed Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto).\u00a0His first book, The Pena Files &#8212; the true story of the world\u2019s highest-paid private\u00a0investigator, Octavio Pena, the only man to ever successfully infiltrate both the\u00a0Mafia and the IRS &#8212; was published by Harper Collins.<\/p>\n<p>McKenna has sold several original pitches and has written numerous studio film\u00a0assignments, including an adaptation of Once Upon A Distant War for\u00a0Bruckheimer Films and The Perfect Mile for Kennedy\/Marshall and Universal.\u00a0Among others, he has worked with Ridley Scott, David Fincher, Frank Marshall,\u00a0Frank Darabont, Wolfgang Peterson, Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks.\u00a0He is currently developing a miniseries on Peter The Great for Bold Television,\u00a0adapting Hampton Sides\u2019 Kit Carson epic Blood and Thunder for Ridley Scott, and\u00a0is adapting All Things Possible, the Kurt Warner story, for Fox Studios. Last fall\u00a0he served as a Gould Center Visiting Fellow at Claremont McKenna College\u00a0where he taught a seminar on writing adaptations for the screen.<\/p>\n<p>He lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico with his wife Maureen and their three\u00a0children<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Panelist Bruce C.
