\"HamptonSides\"<\/a>HAMPTON SIDES, 53, is the author of Ghost Soldiers<\/em>,\u00a0Blood and Thunder<\/em>, Hellhound On His Trail<\/em>, In the\u00a0Kingdom of Ice<\/em>, and other bestselling works of narrative\u00a0history and literary non-fiction. He is editor-at-large for\u00a0Outside<\/em> magazine and a regular contributor to National\u00a0Geographic<\/em>, among other publications. His magazine\u00a0work, collected in numerous published anthologies, has\u00a0been twice named a Finalist for the National Magazine\u00a0Awards in feature writing.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Ghost Soldiers<\/em>, a World War II narrative, has sold\u00a0slightly over a million copies worldwide and has been\u00a0translated into a dozen foreign languages. Ghost Soldiers<\/em>\u00a0won the 2002 PEN USA Award for non-fiction and the\u00a0Discover Award from Barnes & Noble.<\/p>\n

Hampton’s Blood and Thunder<\/em>, about the life and\u00a0times of controversial frontiersman Kit Carson, was\u00a0named one of the 10 Best Books of 2006 by Time<\/em>\u00a0magazine, and was selected as the year’s best history title\u00a0by both the History Book Club and the Western Writers of America. Blood and Thunder was the subject of a\u00a0major documentary on the PBS program “The American\u00a0Experience” and is currently under development as a\u00a0television miniseries.<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Hellhound On His Trail <\/em>(Doubleday, April\u00a02010) is about the murder of Martin Luther King Jr. and\u00a0the international manhunt for assassin James Earl\u00a0Ray. The book was the subject of the recent PBS\u00a0documentary “Roads to Memphis” and has been optioned\u00a0by Universal Pictures for the screen.<\/p>\n

His other books include Americana<\/em> and Stomping\u00a0Grounds.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 A native of Memphis with a BA in history from\u00a0Yale, he lives in Santa Fe with his wife Anne. Hampton\u00a0is an advisory board member of the Mayborn Literary Non-Fiction Conference and the Author’s Guild of\u00a0America. He has appeared as a guest on such national\u00a0broadcasts as Book TV, The American Experience, the\u00a0Today Show, the History Channel, Fresh Air, The\u00a0Colbert Report, CBS Sunday Morning, the NewsHour\u00a0with Jim Lehrer, and NPR’s “All Things Considered.”<\/p>\n
