Brent knows Santa Fe audiences and has the vision to create an extraordinary program for the 2011 festival.\u201d said SFFF Executive Director Diane Schneier Perrin.<\/p>\n<p>Kliewer has been programming films for Santa Feans since 1982. An internationally known film curator, Kliewer founded the Jean Cocteau theatre in 1983 and in 1986 began a decade of building the film program at the Center for Contemporary Arts. His extensive knowledge of the history of world cinema and contemporary works led to a ten-year run as film critic at the Santa Fe New Mexican and five years as an adjunct professor in critical studies in the Moving Image Arts Department at the College of Santa Fe.<\/p>\n<p>In the late nineties, Kliewer was instrumental in the fundraising for and design of The Screen, Santa Fe\u2019s premier cinematheque where he continues to serve as the Director of Film Programming.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor more than a quarter of a century I have enjoyed a special rapport with film-going audiences in Santa Fe. We&#8217;ve viewed thousands of films together. Santa Fe stands as one of the great centers for film enthusiasts in the world,\u201d said Kliewer \u201cIn this new role, I look forward to expanded opportunities to create that intimate communal experience that is movie going and that film festivals embody through seeing new work, talking about the work, celebrating the classics and engaging with new languages of technology and artistic expression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Santa Fe Film Festival will kick off its festival season with a free pre-festival open- air community screening on Friday, September 23rd in partnership with the Santa Fe Railyard Community Corporation and Heath Productions.<\/p>\n<p>The 2011 Santa Fe Film Festival will run October 20-23 as a signature event of the Santa Fe Arts Festival. The program will include 12-15 features, 20-25 shorts and a tribute to a renowned film artist. One feature slot and a program of shorts will spotlight films produced this past year in New Mexico by New Mexicans. Submissions are being accepted in the following categories: Feature Narrative, Feature Documentary and Shorts (all genres). The \u201cregular deadline\u201d for submissions is July 29th and the \u201cextended deadline\u201d is August 31st.
