Bill Murray FDR Flick Highlights Santa Fe Film Fest Line-Up<\/strong>

The 13th Annual Santa Fe Film Festival kicks off Dec. 6 with Bill Murray\u2019s take on FDR in \u201cHyde Park on the Hudson,\u201d according to a listing of films unveiled Thursday.<\/p>\n

\nThe four-day festival will include \u201cAny Day Now,\u201d starring Alan Cumming, and Austria\u2019s \u201cAmour,\u201d this year\u2019s Palme d\u2019Or winner at Cannes.<\/p>\n

\u201cHyde Park on the Hudson\u201d pairs Murray with Laura Linney in the British comedy\/drama.<\/p>\n

\u201cBill Murray plays FDR and Laura Linney is a guest on the Hudson, where they are hosting the king and queen,\u201d festival executive director Diane Schneier Perrin said. The movie was directed by Roger Mitchell.<\/p>\n

The festival spans Dec. 6-9 at locations ranging from The Screen to the Center of Contemporary Arts to the New Mexico History Museum.<\/p>\n

Alan Cumming will star in Travis Fine\u2019s \u201cAny Day Now,\u201d winner of the Heineken Audience Award at the Tribeca Film Festival. The movie was inspired by the true story of an abandoned teenager with Down syndrome taken in by a gay couple in 1970s Los Angeles. The trio create a family challenged by a biased legal system when the couple tries to adopt the teen.<\/p>\n

Directed by Michael Haneke, \u201cAmour\u201d is an intimate study of the effects of aging on a blissfully married couple. Haneke also directed 2005\u2019s \u201cCachet\u201d with Juliette Binoche.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a couple who have an amazing relationship but one of the partners is starting to show the signs of dementia,\u201d Schneier Perrin said. \u201cIt will be relentless.\u201d<\/p>\n

The lineup also features Dustin Hoffman\u2019s directing debut with \u201cQuartet,\u201d about a home for retired opera singers giving an annual concert to celebrate Verdi\u2019s birthday. The event is disrupted by the arrival of Jean, an eternal diva. The movie stars Maggie Smith, Michael Gambon and Billy Connolly.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow Forager\u201d is about two foodies who forage for mushrooms and sell them to New York restaurants. Their lifestyle is simple, their income unstable.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlong the way, we\u2019ll see some great food being served,\u201d Schneier Perrin said.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s festival will include five shorts programs. The Foreign Language Oscar contenders include \u201cVioleta Went to Heaven\u201d (Chile), \u201cLore\u201d (Australia), \u201cAmore\u201d (Austria), \u201cBarbara\u201d (Germany) and Kenya\u2019s first-ever entry \u201cNairobi Half Life.\u201d<\/p>\n

George Jecel\u2019s \u201cLittle Dancer\u201d tells the tale of an ambitious and talented 13-year-old Eastern European dancer\u2019s dream to escape the limits of her provincial life for classical training and stardom. But Jecel layers the coming-of-age storyline with a sinister plot to deliver the innocent ballerina into human trafficking.<\/p>\n

Schneier Perrin is a veteran film producer (Kathryn Bigelow\u2019s \u201cBlue Steel,\u201d Oliver Stone\u2019s \u201cTalk Radio,\u201d Barbet Schroeder\u2019s Academy Award-winning \u201cReversal of Fortune\u201d). Brent Kliewer, programming director of The Screen, is also the festival\u2019s programming director.<\/p>\n

The New Mexico film program will feature \u201cCanes of Power,\u201d \u201cFrom Zimbabwe to Santa Fe,\u201d \u201cLiving Traditions,\u201d \u201cRooted Lands\/Tierras Arraigadas,\u201d and \u201cYoung Ancestors.\u201d<\/p>\n
