16TH SANTA FE FILM FESTIVAL BROADENS CREATIVE CANVAS, FILMS
New: Culinary Experience, Canyon Road ArtCrawl, Action Sports, Latin Cinema
Santa Fe, New Mexico: 16th addition of Santa Fe Film Festival partners with O’Keefe Museum and Canyon Road Merchants Association to offer attendees a visual taste of Santa Fe while exploring more diverse film and culinary experiences. The film festival runs from December 7-11, 2016 with festival activities to be held at various venues including Meow Wolf, Jean Cocteau, CCA, The Screen, State Capitol Kitchen, Canyon Road, The Scottish Rite, Cowgirl, The Hotel Santa Fe, La Posada and more. The festival will expand to include culinary pairings with some of the top restaurants in Santa Fe (Fire and Hops, Georgia, Radish & Rye) along with a Friday Night ArtCrawl, complete with red carpet and a Mariachi March up Canyon Road. Over thirty galleries will participate in the event presented by Christopher Foundation for the Arts and the Canyon Road Merchants. The Festival will feature over 170 films from around the world with a spotlight on Latin America, Action Sports, Art Documentaries, Comedies and Native Cinema.
The Opening Night film will be Sundance sensation “Sophie and the Rising Sun,” based on the novel by Augusta Trobaugh and adapted and directed by critically acclaimed filmmaker Maggie Greenwald (Songcatcher, Ballad Of Little Jo). The film stars Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County, Masters of Sex, The Red Road), Margo Martindale (August: Osage County and Emmy Award winner for The Americans and Justified), Critics Choice Award winner Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is the New Black, Rosewood), Diane Ladd (Joy, three-time Academy Award nominee for Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Ramblin’ Rose and Wild at Heart) and Takashi Yamaguchi (Letters from Iwo Jima). The film is produced by Santa Fean Nancy Dickenson (Home of the Brave), Brenda Goodman (Ballad Of Little Joe, Sex(Ed) The Movie), Lorraine Gallard (Home of the Brave), and Maggie Greenwald. Co-producer is Susan Lazarus. The film, a female driven study of small-town prejudice set against the backdrop of war in 1941, is all too urgent in its message on racism in America. There will be an in depth Q&A following the 7PM screening at Jean Cocteau on Wednesday December 7, 2016.
The film festival begins with a reception at Gerard Vachez Gallery for “Faces of Film,” an exhibition by Santa Fe artist Grant Kosh, featuring the famous faces that shape culture through cinema. Cowgirl will once again play host to the annual Opening Night Party with Golden General, fronted by multi-talented Talia Kosh and the Felecia Ford Band set to entertain the crowd with sounds of the Southwest and beyond. The five-day festival will highlight culinary events, exhibits, panels, parties and celebrity appearances by Emmy nominated, Tony Award winning actor John Benjamin Hickey (Manhattan, The Big C: Hereafter) Julia Jones (Twilight, Hell Ride), Daphne Zuniga (Spaceballs, One Tree Hill) who stars in the holiday comedy “Search Engines,” playing at the festival Friday December 9th at the CCA. The actors will participate in an Acting panel during the festival while Mr. Hickey will also conduct an Acting Workshop on Sunday December 11th at the Scottish Rite.

- Canyon Road ArtCrawl from 4-7pm on Friday December 9th. Open to the Public and featuring over 30 galleries, including GF Contemporary and The Longfellow Gallery along with Mariachi Band and festival decor
- Fundraising dinner at State Capitol Kitchen Saturday December 10th

- Screenwriting Panel by ScreenCraft, Meditation for Artists with Brad Raider, Acting Panel and Acting Workshop with John Benjamin Hickey
