Jackie Fleming, who is an author using the pen name Anne J. Thomas, writes both fiction and non-fiction stories set along the Santa Fe Trail. In 2018, she set out with her dog Holly, and horse Fancy, to visit all of the major Santa Fe Trail landmarks within New Mexico. This documentary follows that journey, along with historical commentary by Jackie’s dad Tony Fleming. Accompanying them on the trip are the ghosts of those long ago travelers of the trail, whose voices, gleaned from various memoirs and letters, are brought to life by a handful of guest speakers. Not only is this an evocative pilgrimage by a woman who is drawn to a past life and time, it is also an informative narrative of an era in American history before the advent of the Industrial Revolution changed everything.
