Executive Director Diane Schneier Perrin led the new design charge, requesting a more navigable site, timely information and an active blog. “As a festival,” she said, “It’s important for us to reach out to film lovers, filmmakers and industry professionals and provide an interactive medium for participation and discussion that extends beyond Santa Fe to our national and international audience.”
The creative was produced by Santa Fe designer Gregg Weiss of Gomightysmall, (Gomightysmall.com), based on a creative brief from Perrin. The site’s graphical interface underscores Santa Fe’s UNESCO designation as an international “Creative City” with the goal of the cinematic arts joining its fine and folk art markets, unique adobe architecture, eclectic music scene and performing arts groups as well as Northern New Mexico regional cuisine. To that end, Weiss has incorporated the work of another local artist, photographer Dorie Hagler, (DorieHagler.com), to enliven the vision for the site and the 2011 campaign.
“Gregg and I were very eager to bring the viewer in to the special experience of setting an international boutique film festival in a uniquely beautiful and art-conscious city like Santa Fe,” said Perrin. “Dorie’s photographs are already very cinematic and evoke the human stories behind these captured moments of life in New Mexico and our rich cultural heritage. When Gregg began layering these pictures over an inky blue Santa Fe night sky, they took on the quality of projected images and it all came together—the best of world cinema, and Santa Fe, too.”
Gabriella Marks served as content strategist for the site and worked with the developer to create a rich variety of pages to encourage visitor use and participation. The team focused on delivering a dynamic experience of the festival whether the audience is able to attend in person or virtually. Opportunities were created for submitting films, planning your festival schedule, participating as a sponsor, becoming a member, volunteering, and sharing real time and archived coverage of events.
