Santa Fe Film Festival 2014 Announces Filmmakers in Attendance for May 1-4
More than 40 film programs will be hosted at the Jean Cocteau Cinema at the Railyard, along with the Center for Contemporary Arts (CCA.) Producers and filmmakers will be in attendance.
Among the filmmakers who will attend the May 1-4 Santa Fe Film Festival 2014 are Peter McCarthy, who will screen a sneak preview of his new, locally-made film Death & Taxes (produced with A-list Santa Fe actors); Jim Tushinski, who will present I Always Said Yes: The Many Lives of Wakefield Poole, about a famed Broadway choreographer turned erotic film director turned activist; Shaeri Richards, presenting Moving from Emptiness: The Life and Art of a Zen Dude, about Zen calligraphic painter Alok Hsu Kwang-han; Rob Bruce, who will be in attendance for his film McConkey, a portrait of an extreme skier and ski designer; and actor Michael Gross (Family Ties), who will be screening his half-hour film Guest House in the short-film program Growing Pains: Adolescent Short Films for Adults.
Santa Fe Film Festival will also present the winning project of this year’s Shoot Santa Fe Pilot. For this annual program, pilot projects across New Mexico competed for the opportunity to win a $25,000 film package, which includes resources (through the festival’s partnership) for the winner to complete a television series pilot. The 2014 award-winner #nightslikethese will be screened at this year’s festival. Producers Angelique Midthunder and Melanie Kirk teamed up with director Anna Macpherson for this project. “It is an honor to earn the Pilot Project prize and have our pilot screened at the Santa Fe Film Festival,” says Midthunder.
A documentary by Kristina Wagner and Joe Crump, Children of Internment, about former internees and their families, will also join the lineup.
Local filmmakers Luca Ceccarelli and Eileen Street will bring us the New Mexico-made award-winning Eve Angelic, a short action-fantasy about a spy named Eve who finds herself in danger while on a mission at a mysterious Vatican Intelligence Service meeting.
Producers Michael Fitzgerald and Richard Romero bring to the Festival their new film, Closer to the Moon (2014), starring Mark Strong, Vera Farmiga and Harry Lloyd.
“Being from Santa Fe, it is a great honor to share with you a fantastic film that I was a part of… Thank you,” said Romero.
A special retrospective is planned in honor of Michael Fitzgerald, including The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) and The Pledge (2001). “Three entirely different ways to celebrate film,” observes Fitzgerald. “And in Santa Fe. How lovely.”
The Santa Fe Film Festival celebrates all facets of cinematic arts – here in New Mexico, regionally and globally. Our annual event honors everyone working both behind the scenes and on screen to bring the best of film creation, production and showings to the public. We constantly seek improvement in our respective crafts and provide film makers with resources to pursue their dreams. To that end, the Santa Fe Film Festival focuses on bringing together distinguished industry specialists and discriminating movie lovers through accessible screenings, panels, workshops and parties.
The Festival will continue to grow as the leading exhibition and educational portal for all things cinematic in New Mexico.
The Santa Fe Film Festival is a cultural, not-for-profit 501 (c) (3) organization.
