In 1833 and 1834, Karl Bodmer, traveled along the Upper-Missouri as part of the Prince Maximilian expedition. The images that Bodmer sketched and painted are historical art documents that are iconic in present day America among the direct descendants of the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation.
